For example, say the settlement ends up being 15000 dollars,

what portion of that goes to me, the lawyer, and to the doctor?

Thank you

Answer by Kenny
Depends on how much your medical and legal fees are. The balance would go to you.

Since there seems to be an attorney involved per your question, that is the person to ask.

The settlement $ $ $ should be based on doctor bills already in evidence, & the lawyer's fee is a set amount/%, so do the math.

The medical bills get paid first. The lawyer takes his cut (usually 30-40%) after that, and you get what's left.

The lawyer gets his cut first - that's usually 30% to 40% of the total - you decided what that amount was up front, when you hired the lawyer.

Then, the doctor gets paid, the full amount of the medical bills.

IF there's any money left over, then you get that.

With most minor accident and injury settlements, as you can see, with the attorney fees, you're not likely to end up with enough left to pay off all the medical bills (which, btw, you still owe), let alone be able to pocket anything.

The lawyer, is the one who makes out, most of the time.
