Just wondering, can a solicitor whose main role is to litigate and advise clients also appear before the courts to represent their client in a barrister role (when they are qualified as a barrister)? I've heard that barristers who take on a solicitors role in corresponding on issues and communicating with other parties on behalf of the client cannot actually represent the same person in court for the same issue.

I think that the barrister position had to be outsourced to an independent firm and the solicitor then takes on an advisory role in court and does not represent.

Can anyone confirm this for me? I've been googling for awhile and can't find anything.

Thanks!
