I was probably going no more than 10 miles an hour. There was minimal damage to his bumper, so we just exchanged insurance information and I reported it to my insurance co. Now he's claiming his wife has a torn rotator cuff. What should I do? Do I need a lawyer?

Tell him to contact your insurance company.

Do not communicate directly with the person you hit... let your insurance company deal with it--that is what you pay them for. They will provide your legal representation if it comes to that. Just keep detailed records of any time the person you hit tries to contact you, and keep in touch with your insurance company. Trust me, the insurance company doesn't want to pay any more than they have to so they will fight for you... don't make it worse by getting involved with the other party and possibly saying something to hinder your case. If they are honestly injured, they deserve to be treated within reason, but leave it to the professionals. Good luck! Ugh, I've been there!

Do not deal with them, have them contact your insurance company.
I just want to tell you that reporting it to your company was a great move.
I was rear-ended once, and went to the police department to file a report. In the process the officer checked my rear tail lights (and noted that they were working).
I went home and called my agent.
I forgot about it till I was contacted my the Biker that ran into be. He ranted about bent forks on the bike, and that it was my fault because my brake lights were not working.
So I told only that I had filed a report with the police and my agent. The only other thing I told him was to see my agent.
Good luck, hope you filed a police report too. It could come in handy it you did.
