Last night a car crashed into my front yard destroying some landscaping and mailbox. He was taken to jail. He said it wasn't his car (girlfriends car) and didn't have insurance. I have the license plate of the car that did the damage. How do I find the owner of the car to make an insurance claim?

You also have the police report right? That should contain the guys name, and the registered owners name, etc.
Call your insurance, they will take care of it. I've never made a claim myself, I have always called my company and they go after the other guy for me.

ask the police for the owners name and insurance. in most states its illegal to have a vehicle on the road without insurance,

if he was taken to jail then you can go there and file a complaint - give them the date and time as well as the plate # and then ask for a copy of the arrest report it will cost you $ 5.00 but it will list the name of the person who owns the car - then you can call your home owners insurance company and file your claim.

There most definitely is a police report filed for this loss - since your personal property was damaged, you have right to retrieve a copy of the police report. What you need to do is get a copy of that police report, it will state if the person has insurance or not. If that person does not have insurance, file a homeowner's claim and get your stuff fixed ... and your homeowner's insurance will go after the at fault party regardless of if they have insurance or not.

If you have Homeowners insurance you can file a claim & let your insurance deal with the driver of the car or its owner. Your insurance carrier should be able to find the owner of the car through the license plate.
Homeowners insurance covers plants, trees & shrubs up to 5% of your Dweling coverage and vehicle damage is one of the covered perils (caused of loss).
Also make sure you file a Police Report.

You put in the claim with your home insurance, they arrange the repairs and go after the car insurance, and/or the driver. You will have to pay your policy deductible, but they refund it if they get the money back.
