Workmans Comp is handled at the state level so your answer is state specfic. Contact your workmans comp office in your state or check their website's FAQ. It sounds like it would be commonly enough asked to be a "Frequently Asked Question."

The wait period for workers comp, varies by state. It's anywhere from three to twenty one days, depending on what state it is.

If you're asking, "hey, I got injured last year, and NOW want paid tiem off", it's too late. The injury needs to be reported right away.
