I have been an executor of my late mother's will for the last 5.5 years. I am one of 4 beneficiaries and we cannot agree. My brother seems to call the tune and I have had enough, so I want to tell them to get on with it and leave me out. I don't know whether I am entitled to do this.

There is nothing in the world that can destroy family unity faster, more effectively or permanently that family Will/Estate matters.

Yes, you are free to back out. There exists general prohibitions against slavery throughout the World. An estate will not fail for the loss of an executor. The Court will seek a family volunteer and failing any agreement, they might even appoint an outside Administrator to take on this responsibility at SUBSTANTIAL COST to the Estate. This could leave your brother and other beneficiaries fighting over remaining pocket change.
