I was in my cousins car when rear ended with a car. when we got off the car I spoke to the driver because my cousin wasn't able to speak English properly. I have to say that he is not from the UK and he doesn't live here right now and he just came to the UK for a while. I spoke to the driver of the other car and gave him my name and phone number just in case he needs to get some more information but i gave him my cousins address. I also spoke to my cousins insurance on behalf of him but I never gave my own details and acted in a way that I am my cousin. The insurance company didn't pay out for some stupid reasons ( they said that my cousin is insured on his uncles car and is not allowed to drive another persons car when he is not the owner). after a few months we received a letter at my cousins address from his lawyer with my name appearing on it. The man told his insurance that the driver was me ( although i wasn't and i only acted as an interpreter). my lawyer wrote them a letter explaining the situation but they insisted that i was the driver. i just didn't want to get into trouble and i paid their money on behalf of my cousin. now i have received another letter at his address that i have to cover their repair cost as well. they said they might even want to cover their uninsured costs. im really getting angry but i don't no what to do. my cousins insurance policy is showing that i was never insured on that car nor the owner. i have never owned a car in my life and i have never been insured on anybodies car. my other cousin ( the brother of my cousin who made the accident) is in the country now and can be a witness that his brother used to drive the car and i never used to drive. i also got my driving license 8 months after my cousins accident but i still don't drive cause i cant afford it. how can i get out of this trouble? my solicitor said that he will write to them with my exact position but im not sure if it will solve my problem. any suggestion would be much appreciated. thank you.

You shouldn't have given your name or infortamtion in the first place.. obviously you were only trying to make things run more smoothly and help out your cousin, but by doing that it makes you look like the guilty party. Stop talking to the insurance company/drivers of the other car and get your lawyer to deal with it. At the first sign of confusion you should have referred everybody to your lawyer instead of paying for their repairs and trying to sort this out yourself, you're only making things worse for yourself.
