Should I hire a workers' compensation lawyer?

My husband had cervical disk surgery resulting from an injury from his job. The Workers' Compensation insurance company is dragging its feet and acting as if they do not want to pay him - should I consult with a lawyer?

Oh yes you should, but be aware that the lawyer doesn't work for free. But make sure he has a legitimate claim and that you aren't just getting greedy. If the company offers him a fair settlement then take it. If not then sue. Also be aware that if your husband accepts any money now it could prevent him from being able to sue later. You should also know that things like this don't breeze through court. It can take years for a lawsuit to yield any income. I work with a lady whose husband has been out of work for years and has had all sorts of problems collecting.

You should. Make sure his doctor's statements back up the claim though. Consultations are usually free and can't hurt anything. Workmen's comp claims can be slow depending on the insurance company while they check out all the details. The more the claim the more they look for reasons to not pay. Back surgery would be significant but you shouldn't worry. Just make sure all the T's are crossed and the I's dotted and you should be fine. You may have to endure a litle feet dragging but usually a letter from a law firm can help speed things up.
