pompous and exclusive?
For example - they act like no one should know anything about their profession, so they try to confuse the general public on purpose.
A legal document has to be written in exactly the right way or it's not valid. The proverbial dotting every "I" and crossing each "t".
The financial laws are written such that one mistake can cause you to be taxed 50% instead of 0% .
The dentists insist on cleaning your teeth (or if a helper does it, they still charge full price) , when anyone with 6 days of training can clean teeth.
Pharmacists are nothing more than pill counters and you damn well know it.
Accounting is 10 times more difficult than it needs to be.
I'm not saying we don't need these professionals, but you don't see plumbers making pipes that can only be assembled if you have special glue that only a licensed plumber can buy.
Or you are only allowed to buy a hammer if you are a licensed carpeter.

Maybe because they do know more about their profession than you do.
Legal work needs to be specific a word can change the meaning of a contract. Even something like a will it is says I leave 10K to my children that could mean to share or to each and doesn't define who your children are. Are they the children you had with your wife or the children from relationships and one night stands. Does it include adopted children, foster children step children or grand children who lost parents so you are raising them. Most people think whatever they write will be understood because they know what they meant.
Yes tax laws are specifically written and things like not taking a required distribution on a IRA will cost you a 50% penalty. The rules are specific and if you don't understand what you are doing you should talk to a professional adviser.
I don't know how long hygienist train but I think it is 1-2 years not 6 days.
Pharmacist train for 5 years and know more about drugs than doctors they can formulate formulas and check for drug interactions. They are a valuable resource and I respect them.
I am an accountant and so think the rules are straight forward for most things. We have rules so we all know what a number means. Without specific rules it would be up to each accountant to decide how to handle things like depreciating a fruit orchard or race horse. We don't all deal in horses or apples but we need to know our industry. I deal in ship repair now and there are specific laws both federal and state. If you don't know details like what is taxable for state sales tax you can cost your company money. I don't think we are arrogant just knowledgeable. I but your profession is just as specific in some people die if you don't know what you are doing. Someone in another country let someone go into a closed compartment without running ventilation fans. He said he just opened the hatch to air it out and had always done it that way. This time someone went into the tank and died. We have best management practices and they must be followed or people die.

Ask yourself this, if think so lowly of these guys, then imagine yourself in this situation.

You are any of the above. You are asked by a client/customer about a question. Out of 10 questions, who do you think will be able to answer the most correctly?

The truth is, that is the reason people study so hard to learn their industry. I'm sure you can find examples in your own life. Compare yourself to you friends. Single out the thing you do that much better, or are more knowledgable about than your fiends. Do you think you would be more likely to talk about and answer questions more correctly?

After thinking about the above, think about why it is that you are so much more knowledgable about the subject. I guarantee it will be the fact that you spend more time working in the field. The fact is that people can read a general statement about what each profession about does and get an idea of what those people do. Replicating what those people do is a different story.
