Q&A: Financial Ombudsman?

The solicitor's firm dealing with the conveyancing of my mortgage have to be the most inept bunch of cowboys I've ever come across. My mortgage offer has expired because they have taken 7 MONTHS to do whatever it is they do.
Now obviously the action I would like to take would be to visit the office of my solicitors and set it on fire, however as that's not really practical (yet) is the financial ombudsman the correct people to complain to or am I wasting my breath? Or is there a more powerful body I can raise a complaint with?
I would like to cause as much damage as possible without setting fire to the building....
