I was in a car accident, it was not my fault, and there is a police statement saying so. In order to make a claim, should I call the other guy's insurance company or my own?

I though the police said to call my own company and tell them the case number of the polic report, but that doesn't make sense, it seems like.

If you report it to you insurance they will facilitate the claim through the other persons insurance. But you can call the other persons insurance directly and deal with them, your insurance would just make it easier and make all of the calls for you.

You don't have to call your insurance company, but can call the other persons insurance and file a claim with them for the repairs of your car.

But;;;;;;;;;;just because the police state you are not at fault, the insurance company will make the final decision. If they indeed agreed that the other guy is at fault, they will pay your damages. But say they dispute this, then that is where you need YOUR insurance company to fight for you.

Also, were you injured? If so, you should call YOUR insurance company, since if you have medical payments and/or PIP, it will pay for your medical bills.

Also, if you have collision on your car, your insurance company will fix asap and then go after the other guys insurance for reimbursement, whereas with the other guy you will have to wait for them to verify he is at fault before they will pay you. That could take a few days or weeks.

good luck

Report it to your own insurance company and tell them that there is a police report and give them the reference number which the police should have given you or a copy of the report if you have one.
If you are fully comprehensive let them worry over it because that is what you pay them for. If you are 3rd party you will have to engage your own solicitor. Do not deal with th eother insurance company yourself

You should report all accidents to your insurance company whether your fault or not, if you wish to make a claim then they will do this for you and help you with any repairs to your vehicle.
If you wish to make a claim for any injuries then you can, if you wish, contact the other persons insurance company or see a solicitor.

You were given the proper advice about notifying your own insurance company. Yes, definitely call your own company and let them advise you. By the way. Although you may not be at fault for this accident. Police DO NOT determine fault to see who pays for damages. Insurance companies are the ONLY ones who do that. It is entirely possible that one can be ticketed for a traffic offense and still have the other company pay for repairs. One type of fault has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Cops determine fault for traffic offenses, nothing more. Insurance companies determine fault for damage repair. Nothing more.

you can call ur insurance company as its the quickest way for you...just give them the name and address for person at fault...they will chase him for you...i mean him and his insurance company to recover the cost...they will not charge xs and it will be not at fault claim so it will not effect ur policy

You have to report the loss to your own insurer but you can also call the other company and see if they're going to pay for your damages. If they do you won't be out a deductible and they will also give you a rental while your car is in the shop.
