We are in dispute with a neighbour over the position of our fence, we have lived here 22 years, they 5 years. The fence has been there since 1995 and before(we have old photos and video footage with 1995 dating them).A few months back our neighbours originally said we had 3 inches of their garden(all along the length of the fence, about 40 foot long, now it has gone up to 3foot 10inches). We have had a surveyor out this week, and he has surveyed the land in dispute, and he reckons it is only worth a couple of hundred pounds, if that.
We are already fighting them over a Right Of Way they have deliberately blocked, it is in all our deeds and titles and it is going to county court soon, hopefully with a good result, judging by the say so of 2 solicitors and the surveyor, and all the documented evidence of it that we have etc.
Anyroads, what i want to know, is to try and stop this boundary dispute costing lots of money, which we do not want or have the money for anyway, could we mention to our solicitor that if it is possible could we not offer to buy the so-called disputed strip of land off the neighbours for the amount the surveyer quoted, in the hope this might satisfy them, even though we know we have not got nearly 4 foot of their land. We want to do this, because they started all this dispute stuff as soon as we put our house up for sale, so it is very detrimental to our hopes of selling our property until sorted.
I have just had this idea, and cannot wait to ask our solicitor Monday, so thought I would see what people here would say in the meantime.

if your title and deeds specify the boundary lines, that is all that is required unless the other party wants to protest that original specification
