He lost the entire finger down to the hand. The plastic surgeon that did the surgery said that it will be at least two months before he goes back to work. He will require therapy because he also broke the ring finger and had to have pins inserted into it. He is a crane operator and often has to lift heavy material by hand as well so I assume that it will affect his job to a certain extent.

There's a lot that goes into figuring out insurance settlements. Did he lose only part of the finger or all of it? How much medical treatment will he require? Will he need any kind of therapy? How much time off from work will he need to recover? Will he still be able to do his job even though he's lost his finger?
The only thing I can tell you for sure is that he will be rated with a permanent partial disability.
It will take months if not longer, to settle this claim.

Well, obviously, he's going to get the lost wages until he can go back to work; and all the medical bills paid including physical therapy if it's needed.
There's no pain and suffering, though, with workers comp. In KY, when he's fully recovered, a doctor will assign him an "impairment rating" - a percentage of how the loss of that finger affects his ability to work at his job. That percentage would get multiplied by his weekly wage benefit, times a number of weeks as set forth depending on if it's a dominant or non-dominant hand.
I'm guessing his total impairment will be well under 10%. He might be looking at maybe 4 - 8 weeks of whatever his weekly wage benefit is, max.
