I am interested in a career dealing with Workers' Compensation or Big Liability and Casualty claims. I am primarily interested in being an adjuster for now because I like being out of the office and investigating.
I have my law degree (JD) and work as a law clerk for a workers' compensation and personal injury law firm. I didn't take the bar because I was more interested in a non-traditional legal career.
After my work at the WC and PI firm, I think I would really love a career in Claims Management or Adjuster/Examiner.
My question is how high up can you go in these positions? I am pretty motivated and hard working. I would like an executive position in this capacity someday.
Can you describe the career path for me? And also - not that I only care about money - but whats the compensation like at each step of the career path?
Thanks for you help!

You usually start at the bottom - auto claims - and work your way up. Most VP of Claims for the major carriers, used to be adjusters.
www.salary.com for salaries.
Claims has a really high burnout rate.
You might have better luck getting in, if you don't mention that law degree. That's going to work against you, for sure. Those entry level jobs, you need a bachelor's degree to work for a carrier, but they don't pay so well - maybe $ 25,000 to start.
