i have received an invoice from a solicitor which says I owe them money for the sale of my house which fell through when the other party pulled out. This is for phone calls, creating paperwork etc and searches done on the new home. Do i have to pay this? Bearing in mind it was the OTHER PARTY which pulled out.

I don't know the right answer to this; the English system's quite different to Scotland. However, I suspect you probably do have to pay - but whether or not you can claim something back from the other party probably depends on how far along the conveyancing route they got.
You could probably check with the Citizens Advice Bureau - but your solicitor should also be able to keep you right on this.
Best wishes

Yes
You asked them to do some work so you should pay for it. Just make sure the other party doesn't get any benefit from your solicitors work.
