my boiler hasnt worked for 2 weeks. i have 5 children, one is a baby, and we have had no heating and hot water for 2 weeks. the letting agents sent a man round who turned up at 10pm, and he couldnt fix it. he came back twice more and told me i needed a new boiler. the agent fobbed me off for a week saying she couldnt contact the landlord to get his permission to get a new boiler. i now have enviromental health on the case who have told them to fix it by monday or face court action. i am extremely angry about the situation. its been proved that the agents have told me and enviromental health a string of lies and i dont feel that i should pay rent for the two weeks i have been without heat and hot water, but can i legally do this? i feel my kids should be compensated for their suffering.

legally you do not have to pay your rent for the two weeks you have been without heat or hot water.have you called the boared of health yet they would of got you your boiler alot sooner you still should call them and tell them your situation.

Set an escrow account to put your rent into that.. Don t pay a thing to landlord but DO put it in an escrow account,, Keep ALL paper work and document all calls ( times dates who etc) Hold up your end of the rent by doing an escrow account just notify the landlord and agent about the escrow account GL And for compensation check w/ a free legal clinic about NO rent for the time w/o a boiler
