I want to clean local offices at night and on weekends. Is personally going door to door the best way or are there other ways that could be more beneficial? I am afraid I will be taken as a "solicitor" if I just show up.

Is it too costly to join your local chamber of commerce? They do a lot of networking, and it seems to me that word-of-mouth might be your best calling card. It's hard to go door-to-door because you have to find the decision-maker and too often, that person isn't in (so you wait around killing time or you spend gas coming back later). Hope that helps!

Hi! I clean small offices and there are several ways to make contact with potential customers. I do just stop by and introduce myself sometimes. At that point I don't try to do an estimate but get the name of the decision maker so I can make an appointment.
I also use networking and referrals. I have a good relationship with the insurance agency I get my liability insurance with and he gives me leads to new businesses. So do a couple of leasing agents I know.
Another good way is to write a great introduction letter that points out why you are superior to other cleaners and send it to your target market. Then, a few days after it arrives, call them up to set up an appointment to do a free estimate.
I have tons of other tips and resources for you on my Squidoo lens...the link is in My Profile.

Good Luck to you!!!
