I want to know what are the steps in going about a medical claim in a car accident? Do I just forward my dr notes to the insurance adjuster..... are there certain notes that I should and should not send? I really just want to know the correct way in going about the medical claim.

You don't provide any details, but basically you are responsible for paying the provider/hospital for any services. If you're trying to get reimbursed from an insurer, you then send the insurer copies of those bills.

The medical providers are not a party to the accident and are not required to send bills to an auto insurer or wait for an auto insurer to pay. That is still your responsbility.

If you are injured in an auto accident, the adjuster will most likely send you a medical authorization to sign. This gives the adjuster permission to request records from the doctor if needed to see if treatment was medically necessary due to the accident.

Usually you will be required to submit bills to the insurance company yourself for payment. Most providers will not send to auto insurance companies, since most likely they will have on record your health insurance company to bill. But if you have medical payments coverage and/or PIP on your policy, it becomes primary and your health insurance secondary.

Now if in this accident, you are not at fault and expect the other drivers insurance to pay. Does not work that way, since the other driver's insurance company does not have a contract with you, so they are not responsible for paying your medical bills. People get so upset that the other driver's insurance will not pay and if they have no medical coverage and/or PIP on their own policy or have no health insurance, they are out of pocket themselves for treatment.

But, even though they don't personally pay for the ongoing bills, and if your state allows for bodily injury, then you will collect or be reimbursed the amount paid when you are done treating with a bodily injury settlement that would also include your pain/suffering.

Call your insurance company and they will advise you the steps needed to start your claim.

good luck

It varies by state. You need to talk to your agent.

BUT. YOU can't pick and choose which medical information the insurance company gets - it's all or nothing.
