I am getting a ton of phone calls from companies wanting to sell me continuing education, offering to finance a hone based business, etc. All of these solicitors claim I filled out their information request form on the internet and I never did this. How is this happening?

Answer by Jon L
It could be that the calls are comming from overseas. Other contries are not subject to Do Not Call lists and with the costs of interent phone services it's becoming more and more popular. Or you could have friends that are pranking you.

If you ever registered anywhere you put your phone number down, they could be the perpetrators, selling your number to telemarketers across the globe. Likewise, telemarketers use computers that dial random numbers, and multiple numbers at a time, so it is likeley that even someone with an unpublished number would get some occasionally, but if you are being bombarded, it is likely someone is selling your info all over the internet. It could also be someone trying to pull a practical joke. It used to be a popular thing to subscribe the unpopular teachers email addresses to porno sites online, and this could be a similar attack by a friend, or enemy of yours who wants to see your phone ring constantly. Lastly it could be a big conspiracy. The government is using you for sociological experiments! Put tinfoil on your windows! check your house for bugs! Call Fox Mulder!

Someone has been signing up using your phone on the internet. They could have gotten you number out of the phonebook, there could be a virus on your PC that's stolen your number, someone could have gotten it when you signed up something even. There's nothing more you can do than say not to call again, but you can at least have some fun messing with the callers heads. Or worst case scenario, you could change your number.

I could make money by setting up a computer to call all telephones in a block of telephone numbers. For example say I chose to call 203-555-0000 to 1000, I could mark done the telephone numbers of those phones that answered. Then I would do a reverse telephone number look up and get your name and address. Then I would seel the list to marketing companies. If the list that I sold had a success rate of 100 %, because they reached me, then the next list that I tried to sell would prove to easier to sell.
