is there not a rule against this. They are insisting that we use their solicitor and it is apparantly a non negotiable term. Can they do this?
I know about conflict of interests but i am not sure that the solictor is acting for both. I just really want to use my own appointed solicitors. But the developer is insiting we use a specific solicitor and they are making it a condition of our agreement. Can they do this?
I couldn't find anything on the site that you posted a link to. Do you know the answer at all? Thanks

The buyer and the seller of the house should not use the same solicitor. The solicitor can only stand behind one person.

As far as I know the buyer or seller can put almost any terms they wish into a contract.
If you are not happy with their choice tell them they can use the solicitor of their choice and THEY pay that bill. Their solicitor would ensure everything is done legally but not necessarily in your best interests.
Then get your own and of course you would have to pay that bill. At least then you would have someone on your side.
