In an auto accident bodily injury claim what is the difference between a claims adjuster and a claims specialist and why would a case be bumped up to the specialist?

Answer by ajt575s
The specialist probably has more training and makes more money. I've never worked in insurance, but in credit cards and banking, "specialist" is often a euphemism for "customer service rep" or someone who deals with customer complaints, mistakes that the company may have made, complicated issues of some sort, or very angry customers in general.

The "specialist" is probably a supervisor, or deals in odd cases. It's NOT a standard position with every company - some companies, it's the claims person who takes the first loss report, and THEY don't even have a license.

The specialist is an adjuster with more experience. If the claim got transferred from an adjuster to a specialist it usually means one of two things. 1)it is a major injury or 2) the company thinks there is something fishy with the claim.
