This company calls non stop and is rude as hell about trying to get money from us. They are a collection agency and claim we owe them money and trying to contact the original company will do us no good. I was under the impression there was a certain time they had to call. They are calling very late. Any help and the sources would be much appreciated. I have tried talking calmly to this individual, but the only response I get is pay us or else. Need help, thanks!
They have the cell phone number they are calling. If I block one number, they will call from a different extension. I need to know about the law of how late they can call. I am registered on the do not call list, but they still can call, cause it is a collection agency.....

I believe they are allowed to call between 8am and 9pm. You can send them a certified letter stating that they may not contact you by phone, but the kind of bottom-feeders that call late in the night are probably not going to pay much attention to it.
Get caller id or caller-block on your phone. The few dollars it may cost will buy a lot of peace and quiet.
Here is an excerpt from the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
CEASING COMMUNICATION. If a consumer notifies a debt collector in writing that the consumer refuses to pay a debt or that the consumer wishes the debt collector to cease further communication with the consumer, the debt collector shall not communicate further with the consumer with respect to such debt, except --
(1) to advise the consumer that the debt collector's further efforts are being terminated;
(2) to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor may invoke specified remedies which are ordinarily invoked by such debt collector or creditor; or
(3) where applicable, to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor intends to invoke a specified remedy.
If such notice from the consumer is made by mail, notification shall be complete upon receipt.

Put your phone on the state and national no-call lists; also, get a device to block your phone, such as a Digitone privacy call block unit. I got one, and it's the best $ 90 I ever spent!

They can be rather rude. As a rule of thumb in the state of Texas..they are not suppose to call before 9:00 am or no later than 9:00 pm. Also if they call you on a Sunday, tell them that you don't do money matters on the Lords Day and as a matter of fact if they do call on a Sunday, then the bill is considered paid in full..at least that is the law in the state of Texas Also if the bill is over 7 years old, it can not be collected.
