Christians, there are solicitors who set up outside of stores--they claim for example to be for the relief of orphans of US military, or to support service families Do you give to these? They don't seem to have any papers. Doesn't the US government take care of the orphans of soldiers? And the families of soldiers? What do you think?

Also, how about the beggers standing at stoplights with "Homeless please help me" signs. Do Christians give money to these?

But yeah i think everyone should share the wealth ...mind you that viewpoint may be over looked by you Americans as the thought of helping a human rather than take from them is repugnant to you...

I give to them. It is between them and God what they do with my gift. I think God is more concerned with our willingness to be givers than He is about how our gifts are used. Notice, nowhere in scripture are we instructed to be concerned with how our gifts are used. Simply obey God and let Him handle the consequences. Read all the scriptures on giving and you'll see that we are to give eagerly with no regard for the consequences. I have yet to find a scripture that addresses "conditional giving."

I do give. What I give depends on what the need is. I don't usually give cash, though. I assess the situation. If it's cold out, I'll buy them a scarf, gloves, and hand warmers from the sporting goods section of Wal-Mart. If it's too warm out, I'll buy them a mini fan to keep cool. I'll buy food for the poor if the need arises. This doesn't mean I'm a door mat though, and I can not meet every need for every person, but I try my best.

What the government gives through Centrelink and other pensions is able to provide for all people to live with at least a roof over their heads.
I've unfortunately seen too many instances where the 'homeless' go and spend their money on cigarettes, alcohol, or even worse turn out to actually be rich individuals (why they do it is beyond my understanding).
For these reasons I refuse to give money - I am more than happy to buy people a meal, etc. but I need to know that my money is being spent to help rather than dig these people deeper into the cycle they are in..
