sure you can and should try some other courses as well, look for the first year and half you are stuck in core classes after that its pretty open in what you want to study, hence during that time take the courses you like or take the ones to boost your GPA
Got to LUV Gerry post on the bottom my bet Gerry either did not score well on the LSAT or flunked out of a third tier law school, but he is a little bite of base on his assumptions of a JD and law school

Yes, lawyers are not licensed as specialists they all hold the same law degree and just choose to specialize in certain areas. None of those areas has anything to do with morals or ethics though there are lots of areas they insert themselves.

Yes. The JD degree (which is just a second Bachelor's degree (in the UK and elsewhere in the world it is called an LLB) and not a doctorate as many think) allows the holder thereof to practice law. When pursuing this degree, students usually focus on both a major area and a minor area similar to anyone else getting a B.A. or a B.S.
There are two main types of law, litigation and corporate. Although they are not mutually exclusive. Each may practice in the subareas of environmental, tax, health, utilities, torts, etc. They are specific generalists. Similar to aircraft mechanics.
One should never compare an M.D., a PhD., an M.B.A., an M.S., or an M.A. to a J.D. As such a degree has no research requirements, and thus, is not even roughly equivalent to a Masters degree let alone a PhD or an M.D.
Response to goz1111: I taught the LSAT for many years and never had the desire to attend law school. I am correct about the JD degree. I also taught at two major universities for many years. Law is a waste of time and effort. The field is saturated. We currently have 25 law students (who have completed the JD and or the bar) working for us for $ 12.00 per hour. There are no jobs in the field.
And I repeat, a JD is NOT a doctorate. Not even close.
