I don't know how things work in the UK, but in these United States, the person filing for the divorce usually requests in the divorce papers that the other person be responsible for all court costs and fees. It generally takes 6 to 9 months depending on the back log of cases and unless there's child custody or property involved in the case, you may not even need a lawyer. Oh, I'm sorry, a Solicitor.

Whats up Talwin? The first thing you gotta do is
remember is take care of your responsibilities. Just make sure your kids are taking care of and go from there. She wants a divorce so let her worry about all that.

I am in the UK and my boyfriend is filing for divorce on the grounds of his own adultery with me but it is proving difficult as he has a lot of money and pensions he has been told from his solicitor that she has to file as he was the one who committed adultery, personally we both think he needs to go to a different solicitor. Also she is refusing to divorce him, they have been separated for just over 6 months so far but he may have to wait the 2 years if she keeps refusing. As she doesn't seem to understand why he wants a divorce even though we had an affair for 3 years and he left to be with me and we have been making a really good go of the relationship.

Basically he has been told she can get more than half of his army pension etc, But they were married 25 years. also child support which he pays a regular large amount anyway plus he has his child regularly and buys for her.

Why don't you go and see a solicitor, your first consultation will be free and then also ask them to outline their costs. Also prepare for the stress.

EDIT: You will probably have to pay the fees since it as you who basically caused the end of your marriage by sleeping with another woman or the legal term "using an illegal organ to have intercourse with an alien".
Proviidng you don't contest it, then it shouldn't cost more than about £700. People only say it is expensive because belongings are divided etc. but the actua divorce cost is resonable.
