8 months ago i bought a nice new car, 1 week later i had an accident. the accident happened in a private car park and was caught on CCTV. the other driver was flying around the car park like an idiot and literary teared the front end of my new car off (bumper, lights, radiator) the total amount off damage was £1800 not included paint and labor. like i said it was all caght on CCTV so there was more than enough evidence to make the claim in my favour.
The problem started when my insurance cancelled my policy after hearing i was laid of from work, i agreed that i couldnt afford to keep the insurance up.
Because the insurace policy was cancelled does that mean my car wont be fixed anymore? the solicitor said he was going to go through with the claim (during the month i was still insured). Its now 8 months later and the solicitor hasnt contacted me once, i have left numerous phone calls and e-mails that he hasn't replied to. I am working again and looking for new insurance but i still want my car fixed, it still runs fine, ive paid for it to be temporarily repaired to run again, it just looks a mess.
Will i still be able to get the car fixed? i was insured when the crash happened so it should still get sorted? Im confused as to what to do now. Help!

As you were insured at the time of the accident, then your car should be repaired. If it was the other drivers fault as you say then his insurance will pay for the repair.
Contact the solicitors office and explain that if you do not here from him you will contact the law society.and report him, or better still go round and see him.

Since the other person was clearly at fault, claim with their insurance company.

Its been 8 months and your lawyer is not returning phone calls? You need a new lawyer.
Something does not smell right. You were laid off and agreed to cancel your policy? You should have a letter stating from the insurance company the date it was cancelled.
Say for instance, your accident happened on 2/1/09 and you cancelled your insurance on 2/15/09, as long as your policy was in effect on 2/1/09, you are covered for this accident. If the accident happened on 2/16/09 or after, your policy would have cancelled and they will not fix.
But have you filed a claim on the other drivers policy? It appears he is at fault, so his company should pay for your damages.
You need some answers. Even in disputed liability and/or coverage issues, they usually will resolve w/in 60 days, either to pay or deny.
You are paying your lawyer to work for you, let him start earning his money or get another lawyer.
good luck
