my father died intestate in 1977, but in 2005 compensation was owed to his estate and my brother applied for and was given grant of probate and he sorted the compensation out. However there are some discrepencies in the information that he was giving to the rest of the family which have raised suspicion, but apparently due to the data protection act his solicitors will not reveal the amount of compensation given to my fathers estate. As a sibling I have surely I have a right to know how much compensation was given and not just take the word of my brother, but how do I go about finding out this information

If you do not say where he died, nobody can help you.

I'd start by getting a copy of the intestate probate inventory and dispursement and running them by a probate lawyer
