What is the average annual salary a government lawyer would make? Say, one who works in Washington DC.
Do Government Lawyers make more than non-government? How do the salaries compare?
Just curious.
What about a lawyer who works for the federal gov? Who protects the nation against law suits, lol, for example?

According to BLS.gov the median earnings for a typical lawyer is 102k.
Government lawyers have salary caps whereas private lawyers have no caps, private lawyers have the potential to make much more money.
In May 2008, the median annual earnings of all wage-and-salaried lawyers were $ 102,470. The middle half of the occupation earned between $ 69,910 and $ 145,600. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of lawyers in May 2008 were:
Management of companies and enterprises $ 128,610
Federal Government 119,240
Legal services 108,100
Local government 78,810
State government 75,840
The big money comes from class action lawsuits, generally these are only done by private law firms.

Your pay is usually determined by what field you go into; ie (family, employment, corporate, etc)
Law is divided into 2 sectors, Public and Private practice. Public is the government/non profit and Private is the private firms/corporations. Typically, an attorney who practices in the private sector makes more money than the public practicing attorney.
Here in Houston, the starting salary for a County District Atty (Family law degree - No experience) is btw 38k and 40k per year. I have a friend with a Tax law degree who started @ Chevron in the corporate law department starting @ 72k.
When looking at websites about the salary, keep in mind that this is the median income, NOT the starting salary. These incomes represent attorneys with experience and have been working in their positions for a few years. It also depends on your location. To get a real feel, look for attorney jobs in the field you are interested in to see what is being offered.

It varies VERY widely. Obama is a lawyer and he makes $ 400,000 per year (adjusted for inflation, only Reagan, Bush Sr., and Clinton made less, but it's still a lot). An ADA in DC will make about $ 40,000. The range of government employed lawyers in the justice department, in the white house, in congress, and all over Washington can be anywhere in between and some lawyers who are in private practice but take cases for the government can make even more.
Government work is considered public interest work and so there tend to be more lawyers at the bottom end who make lower salaries than those in the public sector. If you work your way up, the salaries can get pretty substantial and of course private attorneys can sometimes make very little as well. It all depends on the details.

Depending on the field and years of experience it ranges from $ 100,000 - $ 200,000 per year. Government workers usually make less than non-gov't workers but tend to have more protection and security.
