I am thinking of hiring some day laborers to do some light construction work on my home in Maryland, through a labor center called CASA de Maryland, which is supported and funded through the state. However, they make no mention of whether or not the day laborers from the center are insured, in case of injury on the job. I don't think they offer waivers for liability. Has anyone ever hired a day laborer and gotten sued (in the litigous-friendly nation we live in?) or had any accidents happen?

You wouldn't have workers comp for this. You aren't paying taxes etc. They are basically independent contractors who should carry their own insurance but you know that's not happening.
Yes, if they get injured, you can probably be sued.

Why are you asking the people on this forum when you can call CASA de Maryland and find out the "real" answer.
