what do solicitors do?

i know they only attend lower courts but what office work do they do?
and do they do other parts of law like criminal,family,houses etc.
please tell me the full list!and how much do they earn?

For the sake of those who are confused, a solicitor is the English equivalent of an American Attorney, except they do not argue before the courts. In England, the task of an attorney is split between solicitors and barristers. Solicitors do all of the paper pushing legal work and barristors are specially trained to argue cases before the bench. If a solicitor has a case that is going to go to trial, then she employs barrister to agrue the case for her. I hope this clears up confusion amongst the Americans.
