I was in a car accident. I rear ended the person in front of me. Gave all of my info to him, insurance, contacts, etc.
I called once after accident with the week. He was not prepared for me at that time.
It has now been 5 months and I just received my first phone call with estimates from him. Is this legal? How long am I indebted to this man for the accident? I feel like 10 cars could have rammed him since I tapped his rear.

In the state of Caifornia, the statute of limitations is 2 years from the date of the accident. After that, there is nothing they can do to recover dammages.
I would suggest you report it to your insurance and let them deal with it. It sounds like this guy will be a real problem.

he has to have had a police report within 48 hours I would call your insurance company because without a police reportand pics he can't prove what you did at the time,I don't think your insurance is going to cover his claim

It depends on the area, but generally 3 to 7 years. You hit him, making it your fault, and you need to make him whole. I assume you reported this to your insurance when it happened, so just call your agent and have them contact the person you hit and fix up their losses. As far as the 5 month break you got, be glad you had some breathing room.

If you didn't report it when it happened, now is the time to tell your agent, and then tell the person you hit to contact your insurance.

MOST STATES IT IS 2 YEARS.

WHY DON'T YOU JUST CALL YOUR LOCAL DMV OFFICE, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY AND ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS AND AT THE SAME TIME YOU WILL BE GETTING THE CORRECT ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION.
