i've been in a car accident and ive got a lawyer to help me get compensation from the insurance company(i think)..im not very sure how this whole thing works but i noe im entitled to some compensation...how do i find out the amount based on the seiousness of the injuries?

First, I hope it is a lawyer you hired and not one the insurance company asked to contact you, because then it is their lawyer and will look out for their interest.
Your lawyer will negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf. You should consult with him about it. If you cannot arrive at a suitable agreement in the negotiations, your lawyer can file a suit and have a court decide on the amount of damages due to you.

That is for your attorney to explain. That is why you are paying 33% of your settlement to him.

You're entitled to what a judge says you are. It's guided by your state tort laws, the seriousness of your injuries (generally that means, how permanent and how disabling they are), and how much at fault the at fault party was.
You've already got an attorney. He should be giving you a range. But the insurance company will NEVER pay out more than policy limits.
