Last May, i got headhunted froma big firm to a small firm, with only 5 staff on the promise of more pay etc.
After 2 months, i realised it wasnt the case as i was treated badly and left 3 weeks into June.
Asi i left before the end of the month, i had been overpaid by 300 pounds. My idiot ex boss said he would want it back and i left, and never thought about it again, i kept the money in relation to how i felt id been treated.
No since December he has been calling and emailing me saying he wantys to be repaid etc - i have ignored these and hes now saying he has got his solicior to act and he will be sending baliffs to my parents house.
the thing is, ive been looking on line and apparently baliffs can only come if you owe money through a fine or through a court order etc.
And im sure if he did really hire baliffs and get his solicitor involved etc, wouldnt that cost more than the 300 i owed?
Hes not asking for extra costs, just the 300.
Doesa anyone know anything about this sort of thing?
Many thanks
Ben

If a bailiff does show up, inspect their paperwork carefully. Call the police yourself if you can state you are feeling intimidated or harassed.
Chances are, the court will order repayment and you may or may not be informed to show up for that hearing. Bailiffs won't be sent without an order, but he may well get one. And that onder may be for the 300 plus court costs, so you may be better off just paying it now. Unless you have grounds to attend court and fight it (or, better yet, counterclaim) if you were forced to leave due to his misrepresentation of your contract, underpayment for the time you were there, etc.
But realise that what you have evidence of and factual amounts to claim is what counts - no court will award you 300 for hurt feelings or disappointment. So check if you feel you have real grounds for that 300, or if it is worth risking more money to fight it.

Yes he can. You should repay the 300. If you have an actionable grievance, take it to court - you can't just steal his 300 to compensate.
