I have been on light duty for a week and yesturday my boss told me that they may lay me off because they think that this injury is going to be more perminant. I have a lumbar sprain and have been put on another week of light duty for the total of two weeks. I have filed a claim with L and I. Do you think that I have any rights? Thanks for your time.

Good ole Workers Comp. Your employer may lay you off BUT, they CAN NOT terminate your employment if it is due to your filing of an injury claim under workers comp. It is also NOT your employers decision as to whether or not your injury is permanent or ongoing only a doctor is able to make that determination.
TAKE MY ADVISE Hire an ATTORNEY that specializes in workers comp for your particular state.
Being on workers comp at this time I learned an employee does have rights but, sometime you have to fight for them. GOOD LUCK.
