I need to find a laser/radar/cop detector that will work, easy to install, is less than $ 200 and I need to know the features. Will it save me from a speeding ticket, and how far away? Will it tell me if there's a cop nearby? is there a legit website I can buy one from?

If you obey the speed limit, it will save you from getting a ticket

In a perfect world, we would always drive at or below the speed limit. However, humans tend to be imperfect and occasionally make mistakes. In a moment of distraction, you may accidentally exceed the speed limit. At one of those moments, a police radar gun or laser gun might happen to be pointed at your vehicle. A radar detector can ALERT you to potential speed traps and REMIND you to check your speed and slow down if necessary. But let's clear up a few things first:

1. There is no such thing as a 'cop detector'. Depending on the laws where you live (see sources for radar detector and laser jammer laws), you might detect a radar gun or a laser gun used to measure speed, but neither police officers nor their vehicles emit anything that can be 'detected.' So, you're shopping for a radar detector and/or a laser detector and/or a laser jammer. Nothing will tell you if a 'cop is nearby.' Period.

2. Nobody and nothing can guarantee that you will not get a speeding ticket. Radar detectors and laser jammers can help you detect police radar and laser, and jam a police laser gun, but this still does not guarantee that you will not get a speeding ticket. There are other undetectable methods that law officers use to measure your speed, some as simple as using a stopwatch to time your travel on the road from one point to another.

3. You can use a GOOD radar detector and/or laser jammer to help avoid getting speeding tickets. Your $ 200 budget is right on the low end of reliable radar/laser detectors.

The best radar detector for around $ 200 is the Beltronics Vector 955. In addition to providing increased detection range over almost anything made by any competitor, including Whistler or Cobra, the Vector 955 is 100% invisible to VG2 radar detector detectors (RDD), used by police where the use of radar detectors is frowned upon. The Vector 955 detects a wide range of radar bands (and laser), as well as SWS warning systems (for nearby accidents and construction) and POP radar. Beltronics products are also top-rated for the fewest false alerts.

If you are concerned about police laser, you'll need a laser jammer. The best radar detectors also detect laser, but the laser only has to hit your vehicle for 0.2 seconds to read your speed; not nearly enough time to adjust your speed if your laser alarm alerts. A laser jammer jams the laser gun's speed reading while alerting to the laser, giving you time to check your speed before turning off the jammer. Like radar detectors, laser jammers are LEGAL to use in almost every state. However, laser jammers are not within your $ 200 budget.

The best place to purchase a radar detector, laser jammer and similar equipment is from an expert in the field. www.1stRadarDetectors.com owner, John Turner, is an expert in police radar and laser countermeasures. John participates in radar detector and laser jammer tests with Speed Measurement Labs every year, testing all of the best (and worst) products on the market with the cooperation of local law enforcement. (John is with Speed Measurement Labs testing equipment in El Paso, Texas, at the very moment I'm typing this.) John knows what works and what doesn't. He only sells products that are TESTED and PROVEN to work by Speed Measurement Labs. He doesn't sell sub-$ 100 pieces of junk that you can buy at your local chain store. If you want the best possible protection from police radar and/or laser, check out www.1stRadarDetectors.com. Better yet, give John or Jamie a call and ask them what the best product is for your location and budget. Advice is FREE! Even if you don't buy from them, you can learn a lot about what you should be shopping for and how it is installed and used.
