Is the property legally mine?

I purchased a family property and employed a solicitor to do the conveyancing. After doing a random title search after 5 years I find the title had not been transferred to my name from my father`s.What is my liability and also the solicitors who told me the transfer had been completed.

If the deed to a house is in one name, that is who the legal property owner is. I would suggest contacting the company that was supposed to be handling the deed transfer to find out what their explanation is. If they do not get it corrected (with proof) I would contact the BBB and report them immediately. Chances are, if 5 years has gone by, they may be out of business for providing false services to alot more people than just you. If you paid them alot of money, you may also want to talk to a lawyer.

In America you would do a quit claim deed from your father to you. However, since you said "solicitor" I assume you are in Britain or Canada. They might have a different procedure there.

Also, if you have been paying the property taxes for 5 years, that can legally be seen as a sign of possession.
