I just come to US for studying and was hit by a van when I crossed the street.
The van try to turn to right and suddenly hit my left side. (The red hand sign was flashing but it's still a green light)
I was knocked unconscious at that time and was sent to the ER so I didn't know who hit me.
I was breeding in the ER for nearly one hour to wait the nurse and doctor.
Since I don't have any friend here, I feel so helpless.
I was injured and had 2 cuts on face as well as some wounds on my left arms.

Anyone can please tell me how should I do for next step?
My student insurance should cover the medical costs.
Do I need to claim the compensation?
If I want to place a personal injury claim, who should I contact first?
I only have the policeman's record and don't have any information about the person who hit me.
In my country, we usually settle down the compensation without finding a lawyer.
Do I need to find a lawyer here?

Sorry for so many questions. I appreciate that you can give me some ad

Unless you or someone can identify who hit you, you are out of luck in terms of any compensation against that party. You do not need a lawyer until that time. Also, since you have health insurance, your insurer will sue on your behalf. It call suborgation. I suggest you go to the school counselors for foreign students and ask them about the insurance. You may not see a bill if the hospital got your insurance information upfront, if not they will start sending you bills soon. So make sure you inform the hospital that you have insurance and show them your insurance card.

The driver of the car is the person and the insurance responsible in any state in the US. If that driver did not stop then they are guilty of a hit and run and running a red light. If they did stop then they can be sued by anyone they hit (citizen or not) for vehichular assault and running a red light as well as many other issues.

Get a lawyer also. Do this first!

Get the police record. The name of the person who hit you and their insurance company is on it. Get the doctor to testify.

Your insurance should not pay ONE PENNY since you did not cause the accident and you were not at fault. The other person is responsible and needs to pay.

Above all - DON'T SIGN ANYTHING THAT SAYS YOU ARE GUILTY!!! You're not. You are the victim. The light was green and if the state has a "right turn on red law" then the van should have stopped until it was safe to turn then proceeded.

If you don't have a tag # or witnesses or nothing I don't know how you could even begin to find out who hit you. I think you are out of luck. SORRY

First, file a police report for a hit and run accident. Make sure you can tell them exactly what happened, when it happened, and where the accident occurred. The police can take you through the steps from there.
