I mean to ensure they won't come back? It's not illegal to spray them with a spray bottle will it?
Ok let's ignore the spraying.
It mostly irritated me that everything I said this guy is like "Who told you that?" It's just because that is how it it man. He probably wouldn't expect to be sprayed!

I completely understand. I do have a friend thought that loves to learn about new religions so she always invites them into her home and talks with them (sometimes they'll return the next day and keep talking). It's part of their religion to try to convert others and that should be respected. However, if you are uncomfortable with it, just politely ask them to leave and tell them that you are not interested. If the same ones keep coming back, you can express some frustration.

Id say a sticker that say no religious soliciting :)

It would be incorrect to behave as such. The civilized approach is to, upon answering your door...Politely & firmly say " I respect your religion, as I would expect you respect mine"..." I prefer not to discuss religion with you and do not want any of your pamphlets". "Please do not come back again". You might want to post this by your door, it may deter them from knocking in the first place. Or if they do knock, open the door and ask them to read the notice, bid them a polite good day & close ( not slam ) the door.

Just go to your local home center and purchase a No Soliciting sticker and put it in an obvious place where it can be easily seen. If someone does by chance still solicit you politely point out the sign and close the door. You can also place a No Trespassing sign on the property. Spraying anything on anybody could be deemed assault.

You could do what my father did, when members of a religious group came to the house and wanted to talk with him about their religious beliefs.

He told them he was a Druid and that his religion demanded human blood sacrifices. Then, he got an "evil-ish" type gleam in his eye and said, "Say, are either one of you a virgin?"

They left immediately and no one from that religious affiliation came back while my parents lived there.

My dad was a "Li'l Dickens." My mother was mortified when she learned what he had done.

My neighbour hasn't been visited since he told them that it was no one's business what god or gods he prayed to. He said they went kind of pale when he mentioned "gods", and they haven't been back. I keep a little Norse god image on my front door in case I ever need to use the same tactic.

I actually just had a Jehova's Witness come to my house today. I just tell them that I respect thier beliefs but I have my own and I'm not interested in discussing it, not now or ever. They are very polite and leave. It only takes a minute and there's no need to be nasty.

I find that answering the door in nothing but my tighty-whities is a great repellent. MAM's answer sounds much more mature but just not as exhilarating as mine!

Learn a few phrases (words) in German, Russian, Celtic, or any obscure language...just keep repeating the phrases with a puzzled look on your face. The ones that visited me couldn't get back in their vehicle fast enough - never came back either, German worked wonders.

Liked the "Druid" idea too....*snerk* "a virgin"

Edit: Have a star, I'm sure some of my Brilliant, Beautiful contacts have worthwhile and effective suggestions to add.
