I just hate when I get a call from some salesperson with new roofing products. I don't like it when charities or religious groups call me either. You never know who you can trust over the phone. What are some things one could say to get these folks to stop calling?

Answer by sweetlip_au
I always stop them and say I am not interested please take my number off your list to call and then I hang up.

Or you could always say how about you give me your home number and I will call you around dinner time or some other time of inconvenience.

That you've moved to a cave in AZ, and have given up all earthly possessions.

You know what? I am really interested in this but I am busy right now. You have my number, so how about you give me yours and we talk more about this! I am really interested!

(guaranteed to make them stutter and hang up)

If its an computer-generated call, you can sometimes press '0' to take your number off of their calling list. If it's an actual person, say "Hang on", put the phone down somewhere and then go to sleep or something.

Say, "Please put me on your 'do not call' list."

The last I heard, if you are in the US, they have a legal obligation to do so, will hang up immediately and will not bother you again.

Answer by Ask me
Politely say, "I'm not interested. Thanks for your call," and hang up.

You can also visit the Do Not Call registry.

"The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years."

He already has one.
No ,seriously,I prefer to say no and ask to be taken off of the list. It has worked with one of the local newspapers and a cleaning service.
There is no point in being impolite or over polite just be honest.

I'd start by asking who they are, where they got my details from and then turn the tables on them. Like after they've told you thier name, you ask where the name came from etc.

I had some one call me about mobile phones recently, and she kept going on about how i could choose my phone and tarriff, I picked a manufacturer out of the air and said i'd like a free phone and not to pay for any calls, she asked me to hold and i put the phone down have'nt heard from her or her company since.

If they ask for me I say he's not home. If they ask for my gf I say she's not home. If they ask for her spouse I say he died. Sometimes I pretend to take a message but never do. This can work on relatives, too, but sometimes they catch on.

I've always found that talking to people who wish to sell me something ( stuff or religion ) is a wonderful opportunity to vent my opinions. I like to talk about gardening, and the concept of time, and baked goods, sometimes I throw out a really great recipe I've tried; or advice about financial planning for the future; and every one loves to talk about term life insurance or at least that's what I assume, else wise why would they come to me unbidden? I think about it more as a responsibility, they must be lost if they crash up on my doorstep or call me by telephone; and I've never been one to dodge my duty. I hope this helps, I find it is especially potent when combined with generous amounts of humour and personal reflections, because we all love a story; and we all have one to tell. Thank you for this wonderful question.
