I was riding my bicycle and got hit by a pick-up truck. The driver was totally at fault. I am wondering if I should represent myself and deal with this guys insurance company myself. I don't have any broken bones but I have a lot of bruises and got a crack in one of the bones in my spine. Should I deal with this on my own or deal with attorney fees as I believe this can be settled out of court?

No doubt you can get it settled out of court, but it depends how much money is involved. One of those quicky accident lawyers that promise they don't get paid unless you do, they typically charge you 30 or 40% of whatever you are awarded. I'd at least call a lawyer or two who offers free consultation to see what you are up against and go from there.

Initially, yes. Afterwards, no.

I would not advise it, I would talk to a lawyer and get advise from them so you know what you are deal with. Most likely it will be settled out of court but please seek advise for a lawyer.

The insurance company certainly would appreciate that. Then you will be a victim for the second time when you don't receive the full compensation that you deserve.

Hire a lawyer and make him/her earn his/her wages through the settlement or through the trial.

Ask for references.

Good Luck

You should hire an attorney, no doubt. In fact, the insurance company is expecting it and has already some up some money, called a reserve, set aside.

get a lawyer.
if you represent yourself your a fool.
make sure the lawyer only gets 30%. have it in writing.
lawyers are crooks too.
trust no insurance company. dont talk to them either.
they record everything over the phone and i hope the guy who hit you had insurance.
