My daughter had a single car accident. Repairs will cost about $ 2k. My deductible is $ 250. Does anyone know if it is better to claim with insurance or repair on my own? Any guesses on how much insurance will increase? Thanks.

If you can afford the $ 2K, you'll be better to pay it yourself and save your insurance for the times when you really need it. The more claims you submit, the more your insurance will cost in the long run. An excessive number of claims can even result in cancellation.
And if you can afford the $ 2K, you should also raise your deductible to save money each month on premiums.

To decide whether or not to open an insurance claim in regards to rate increase is going to depend on how long your daughter has been driving. If she is a new driver and you have the money to repair the vehicle on you own I definately would. Claims remain chargable on the moving violations reports for 3 years, so especially if she doesn't have many years driving exp (less than 3-4) I would reccomend avoiding the claim at all costs!
I know we purchase insurance to avoid paying $ 2K out of pocket but I can cofidently say that you will prob end up paying more than that on insurance premium in the next 3 years with a new driver carrying an accident.
Be careful though because if you dont report the accident to the DMV and the other driver does you can get your license suspended! Email me if you have more questions and I would be happy to share what I know.

I'll go ahead and file with insurance, isn't that what insurance is for? As long this is the first claim. To me paying 2 grand out of pocket is a lot.
From what I heard, insurance rates may go up 20-40% of your base insurance rate (not your actual rate), but some insurance companies raise it 20-40% of your actual rate. If your insurance offers "Accident Forgiveness" such as All State, then your insurance shouldn't go up any if this is your daughter's first at fault accident.
