It just seems no one will pay my boss (a lawyer) willingly these days. We've had to sue clients for legal fees, even and somehow especially when we win...? I don't really get it. He explains to them in plain English that it's $ 200 an hour and that it might take a few hours. These people sit through court for a whole day and wonder why it came to 1800 for that? Can't they count the hours their lawyer is right in front of them?
That doesn't even get into legal research and motion drafting. I mean it's not like you just show up and magically have legal papers all prepared and formally filed with no prep time and research. Stuff does not "just happen." Nevermind the investment in law school and years of experience, etc. Nevermind the secretary and myself like to eat too...
He's even offered payment plans, which frankly should be astonishing to people because most lawyers want criminal clients paying up front or leaving....
People will pay $ 40 for a stupid tee shirt from the GAP, but not for a shot at not being jailed?
michr: Long winded? It isn't. You didn't read well that did you? Even if you did let me spell this out for you cause apparently you can't be bothered to get it:
The stuff I say, makes the judge let you go.... You want me to say it. Or do you enjoy jail?
Clear enough for you?
And yes, you do get my question, it's about getting people to pay legal fees. That's why you reference a complaint from clients and customers. Nice try; nice fail.

It's the entitlement culture. A lot of people feel that the system owes them for simply existing, especially people who tend to find themselves coming in contact with the system on a regular basis.

so what is the question here?
or did you simply need to "vent"?
if you are an example of how your employer operates, long winded, unrelated conversations, failure to follow rules (no ranting on Y!A this is for questions), then perhaps the clients have a legitimate complaint about their billed hours.........
