My parents have already spent a considerable amount on surveys and solicitors fees etc. Can they claim any back or get the vendors to pay a percentage of their fees?

if there wasnt any sign contract then ..no. but, if your parents and the seller agreed and had a contract drawn up..then yes.

If you're in England and if no contract had been signed, I'm afraid they cannot claim for fees.

If there's no contract, then there's no deal.

this should have been negotiated before..
usually the realtor..asks..the owner if they have a "survey"
that is expensive....and then negotiates that in the price..

you should be asking your realtor/agent
they should be explaining these things.........

It depends.

I do real estate closings, and all our buyer contracts have a clause that if the deal falls through through no fault of the buyer that the seller will pay up to $ 1,500 of the buyers costs.

Look at the contract and see if your lawyer put something like that in there.

If there was a contract for the sale, it is time to talk to the solicitor again. Every piece of real estate is unique and when a seller backs out of contract for sale, just because they feel like it, is when buyer's can sue for big money (much more than the expenses they have incurred). If you had no written agreement, you might just be out of luck. The solicitor would be able to give you the definitive answers you need.
