Lately these guys are coming around acting like the are local and they need your vote for points to win money to start a business. What they really want is to sell you a magazine. So right away I say I'm not interested then they act like I'm rude and try to convince me some more. I don't like strangers knocking on my door, I'm moving soon and will certainly put up a no solicitors sign at my next home. Meanwhile these guys come by once a week how do I get rid of them ASAP?
The apartment complex I live in is painting the doors right now. And washing the hallways. That means no signs.

Answer by Dharma Nature
Since they are being so rude as to not go away when it is clearly what you want, you will be quite justified in closing the door without a further word.

Your next home.?..?..? Just put one up where you are now.

As soon as you figure out what they're up to, say goodbye (nothing else, just "goodbye") and close the door.

Don't answer the door.

Tell them firmly, but politely that neither they, or anyone else working with them is allowed on your property again and that next time you shall have them prosecuted for trespass.

i know what you mean. i was visiting my son at his house and they came up and asked us. i told them if they washed all 3 cars we would purchase a magazine. they agreed. after they washed the cars we told them that we changed our minds. they was mad and left. when they got to the neighbors house the neighbors came out of the house. we yelled over to them hey buy a magazine and they will wash your car well after this they left.for some reason they did not return. just find something creative tell them you are busy and if they lend a hand you will talk while they work

SO ANNOYING! The solution is simple. Make or buy a sign which reads "NO SOLICITING" on your door at eye level so they can't pretend they didn't see it. By law, they can't come to your door if this sign is posted.

The magazine scams are pretty frightening. You should Google about them, there have been many exposes about the abuse of the kids, who are pretty much gypsies. They target specific types of neighborhoods, and share information on neighborhoods where someone made a sale. So don't feel badly about appearing "rude" to someone without a permit, trying to scam you, and coming onto your property, knocking on your door. Simply say, "I'm very sorry, I'm not interested," and close the door. If they become hostile, call the police.

You could not answer the door unless you're expecting someone. There's no requirement that you stand there and listen to a sales pitch - I realize it's their job but it's not your responsibility if you are not interested. (All the signs in the world won't stop someone who wants to solicit anyway. Nice try though.)
