accident claims no win no fee
by RSNY

Few months ago, I was involved in an accident. My car was struck & totalled and I was slightly injured but not seriously.

I found a lawyer in the Yellow Pages who agreed to take my case on contingency. He said "No fees, if we don't win."

He proceeded to set me up with a chiropractor for my injuries which did help with the pain.

Well, few months later, my lawyer decides to drop my case because the other party's insurance denied our claim.

Now the chiropractor sent me a bill for $ 2000!!!!!!!!!!!!. Am I responsible for this? I would never have gone if the lawyer hadn't told me to! I was injured but I didn't have the money to go and would not have if he hadn't told me to.

But I did sign a "Doctor's Lien"..... so am I stuck with this medical bill that I can't afford?????????

It does not sound like it was fraud but I am no lawyer. You can contact the state bar association for attorneys and report him and they will tell you if it was fraud.

That is CERTAINLY Not fraud. You may have misunderstood the situation, but you admit you signed the doctor's lien, meaning you accepted the bill was your responsibility.

The lawyer did not benefit from the doctor's work, you did, and you owe the money.

Unless you can show that the lawyer said 'No win, no doctor bill', you have no beef. No lawyer contingency agreement (which you also signed) exempts you from paying expenses, just the lawyer fees. Next time, READ any agreement you sign, and take nothing on word of mouth.

You can still find a new lawyer to pick up the claim. Perhaps you may win a small settlement that you can use to pay the doctors bill. I suggest you read any of the NOLO law guides you can find in bookstores and libraries. There is a PIP (Personal Injury Protection) law book printed by Nolo.
