law offices

Answer by robert_dod
Kliman Law Offices is a solo practicioner (Burton Kliman). He is unrated by Martindale Hubbell, a leading attorney rating service. He lists thirteen (13) practicie areas as his specialty. These range from litigation, to bankruptcy, to family/divorce law, to real estate law, to business contracts.

It has been said that an attorney who practices in multiple fields is a specialist in none.

That being said, it all depends on what you need done. Many things that seem complicated are basic to attorneys. Many things that should be easy are difficult and complicated under the law.

You can probably trust the attorney, as most are trustworthy. However, you should always interview the attorney and get references for the kind of work you want done. This is, essentially, a job interview. If you are going to pay the fellow thousands of dollars, you should at least perform the same leg-work as McDonalds when they hire a fry cook!

Finally -- it would appear that Mr. Kliman's real strength is real estate and related transactions. Strangely, on his web-site, it lists the "principal attorney." However, neither his web site nor Martindale Hubbell lists any associates. Either he does all the work himself; has paralegals do much of the work for him; or he contracts his work out to other attorneys. These are important questions to ask.

Good Luck

PS - the following are the areas that Mr. Kliman claims to specialize in:

Real Estate Law; Foreclosure Law; Eviction Law; Zoning Law; Environmental Law; Business Law; Estate Planning Law; Domestic Relations Law; Family Law; Corporate Law; Litigation; General Practice; Bankruptcy Law; Contracts Law; Debtor and Creditor Law; Elder Law
