I live in the uk and am in the process of buying a house. I have to be out of my current rented property in 4 weeks but found out today that my solicitors are disbanding and have passed my case on to another law firm. This is going to hold completion up and it will run over 4 weeks. The house that i am buying is vacant, is it common for prospective buyers to ask the seller if they can rent the property until completion?
Renting the property to me, as the buyer.

It is possibl if you speak with the sellers about it. My former roommate rented her house to the sellers after the close for 3 weeks because their new house wasn't ready.

I don't know British law, but it would seem plausible. I know in the US, people who sell a house, but do not vacate, and pay rent to the new owners.

It's not uncommon for the buyer to rent back to the seller after the purchase--but many sellers don't like to rent to the buyers before the purchase because the buyer may find problems in the house. The only way to know for sure in your case is to ask the sellers. If they say "no," you may end up sleeping on a friend's couch until completion. Good luck!
