I was talking to my friend the other day and she said she worked in a solicitors for her work experience and I was wondering weather I could work there as a holiday job, photocopying, sorting files etc. Am I allowed to at my age and also can I work in other office environments doing the same thing?

It depends on the solicitors. Your school careers person should have a list of those locally who take peopleon for work experience. However, my daughter tried and they said they didn't take give work experience as their practice deals mainly with family law and their might be cases (eg child abuse) so it wouldn't be suitable. But as I say, it depends on them.
It's very difficult to get a job at 14, but it can be done. Keep asking around. In the UK you need to get a work permit (not for work experience that the school arranges, but for a job you get yourself). Check out the law, here's a link and some of the details:

School holidays
During school holidays 13 to 14 year olds may work a maximum of 25 hours per week, of which:

a maximum of two hours on Sunday
During school holidays 15 to 16 year olds may work a maximum of 35 hours per week, of which:
a maximum of eight hours on weekdays and Saturdays

(Sorry, I thought this question was from the UK but now I don't think it is, however I will leave my answer up in case anyone from the UK is wondering about this question. I guess there will be similar laws in the US)
