You can expect an effort the settle. The mediator is a third party who tries to overcome communication barriers to see if a settlement is possible. Generally, the mediator talks with all parties (and lawyers) separately, and reveals nothing to each of what the other said. Then talks to the group collectively in an effort to reach an agreement.
